Many people don’t realize that the search field in Google Maps has access to Google’s sophisticated search technology. Of course, you can simply enter a place name or street address and have Google find it for you – but you can also use search strings much as you would in a regular Google Search, and have Google do its best to return a relevant geographical answer:
Google Maps also offers further relevant information in the information panel. Look, for instance, at the Quick Facts link at the foot of this panel, which can be clicked to provide extra information:
Although the displayed information may be more limited, this search ability also works in Android and iOS browsers, and in the classic Google Maps interface:
Try it – you might find it’s easier than using Google Search to find a location and then having to load up Google Maps to view it.
