Adding Footnotes to a Google Document

Here’s how you can insert numbered footnotes into your document:

With your cursor at the place in your document where you want to insert a footnote, click Insert and select Footnote ( or use Ctrl + Alt + F).

This action will insert a superscripted number at the cursor position, and a blank footnote entry, bearing the same number, at the bottom of the page:

This is the place to enter you footnote contents:

Entering a further footnote elsewhere on the page will result in a further, sequentially numbered, footnote entry:

To later delete a footnote, delete the superscripted number from the body part of the document; this will delete all the content of that footnote.
