Google has launched a new and simplified sharing interface for the Google Docs, making it easier for people to find and copy the file or folder link for to share it with collaborators.
Click the blue Share button or, if you’re in your file list, select a file or folder and click the person icon on the toolbar. You’ll now see a Get shareable link button and a grey icon in the top corner of the dialog:
Clicking on this link, you’ll see your file’s link appear and the icon turn green, indicating that the file is already shared (you may already be familiar with this if you use Android devices):
If you want anyone with the link to have more than view-only access, for example be allowed to leave comments or make edits, change the setting in the dropdown from Can view to Can comment or Can edit.
Although on Rapid release, this change is on gradual rollout (Scheduled release will be coming two weeks after completion of rollout to Rapid) so you may not be able to see the changes just yet.
