Revised Conditional Formatting in Google Sheets

In this post I described conditional formatting in the new Google Sheets. The feature has now had a makeover, introducing some new abilities:

You can now add gradient conditional formatting rules (e.g. green -> red, where the lowest numbers are highlighted in green and the highest in red, with intermediate shades in between)

There are new style choices like adding bold, strike-through, and italic text dependent on conditional formatting rules

The conditional formatting editing pane has a new appearance. Here’s the new interface that pops open using Format > Conditional Format:

By selecting the Color Scale tab at the top of the sidebar, I can simply set a gradient highlight for my sheet’s temperature values:

This update is on rapid release and scheduled release, so you may find you have it already; if not, it’ll be with you soon.
