Improved Paste in Google Sheets

When you copy and paste some content in a Google Sheet, the formatting of the pasted content is maintained by default (unless you’re using the Paste special function). Google has now added an extra feature that allows you to instead paste just the values contained in the content, or just the format of the pasted content.

In the example below, I’ve just pasted into cell A1 some content that I’ve copied from elsewhere in the sheet. By default, both value and format have been pasted. Notice the widget that has appeared below and to the right of the pasted data:

Clicking on that widget opens a small menu with the two new options: Paste values only or Paste format only:

Here I want to paste just the values of the clipboard data; when I select that option, the formatting (in this example, bold typeface and enlarged font) is discarded:

Remember that, in Chrome, you can also use the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + V to automatically paste values without their formatting.
