At Last: Table Cell Merging in Google Docs

Finally we have the ability to merge the cells of a table in Google Docs.  A table with merged cells has cells that can span multiple rows and/or columns.

To merge table cells, highlight the cells to be merged in your table:

Then right click and select Merge Cells from the menu. The cells will be merged and their contents concatenated:

Of course, you can merge cells vertically too – in this case, I’ve selected Merge Cells from the Table menu rather than using right-click:

Again the content is concatenated in the merged cell:

Usefully, merged table cells can now be imported from Word documents too.
