Sometimes, when you want to produce a document to a standard format, it’s easier to let someone else do the hard work by using their purpose-designed template to do the job.
Vertex42’s Template Gallery provides over 100 templates, each suitable for either Google Docs or Sheets. Installation is straightforward using the Add-ons menu, and doesn’t require any external sign-up or account creation. After that you can browse the templates directly from the Add-ons menu:
The templates themselves are organized in sections by category. You can browse by category or search for templates by keyword using the search box:
Once inside a category, you can elect to see all templates, or select either Docs or Sheets templates via the drop down selector at top right:
Click on any one of the template thumbnails shown to get more details.
Most of the templates in the add-on are already available for Microsoft Excel and Word on the company’s website, and that’s where you’re taken if you click on More info about this template.
To get the template, click on Copy to Google Drive. After it is copied, it’ll be listed in the root directory of your Google Drive as Copy of [template name]. Alternatively, click on the Open button to begin editing your document immediately.
Overall the templates have a business orientation about them, rather than leisure, education or other sectors, so the collection may not suit all users. Nonetheless, they could prove useful if you need a planner, budget calculator, calendar, introduction letter or resume – among others – and want a no-cost kickstart with some layout ideas or structure.
